Chilli Sin CARNE


(4-6 servings)


  • beans (1 pound)

  • onion (2)

  • pepper (1-2)

  • celery (1 stalk)

  • garlic (5 cloves)

  • celery (3-4 sticks)

  • tomatoes (10 -12)

  • cumin (1/2 Tbs) 

  • cinnamon (1/2 stick)

  • chili powder (1 1/2 bunch)

  • cocoa powder (1 Tbs) 

  • olive oil (1/4 cup)

  • bay leaf, mint




  • Add enough water to cover dry beans by 2 inches, and bring to a boil. Add salt, bay leaf, mint, and lower the heat to medium. Simmer for about 1 - 2 hours or until beans are tender but not falling apart. Drain and set aside.


  • Saute chopped vegetables in olive oil over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Stir in spices, crushed tomatoes, and cocoa powder. Simmer for 2 hours. 


  • Add beans to the pot, combine well, and simmer for another 15 minutes. Add salt and pepper as needed. Serve in individual bowls, topped with avocado and fresh herbs of your choice.
